Gavazzana, a name that comes from the fusion of two ancient Ligurian toponyms, “gaba” and “san”, place and hill. And never was a name more suitable for this splendid village in the lower Piedmont overlooking the Tortonesi Hills, which can be admired in all their beauty from the Belvedere of the Church of San Martino.
The historic center of Gavazzana
A "place on the hill" of great charm and beauty.

Going up on foot towards Gavazzana it is impossible not to be fascinated by its historic center, a little jewel still little known that has earned it the name of "Borgo Dipinto". Already the nearby Cassano town is characterized by lots of cycling-themed murals, but the village of Gavazzana has been totally frescoed with fascinating works of street art since 1989. Many are the work of students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, who have chosen this public art form to allow everyone to enjoy this great beauty.
Continuing our tour, at the top of the village we find the Parish Church of Saint Martin: despite the Romanesque layout, it was built in 1867 by the architect Giulio Leale, also author of the Seminary of Stazzano and of the parish church of Cassano Spinola.
Once you have visited the church, take a break on the large square: from here, on sunny days, you can enjoy an incomparable view of the surrounding area.
